It’s the season for engagement photographs, and I’ve had a lot of fun getting to know each of these couples I’ll be working with on their wedding day..

Jenny + David – Minneapolis

Allison + Noah  – downtown Northfield and Carleton campus

Kayla + Ryan – Burnsville/studio

We intended to do Kayla and Ryan’s session in Northfield as well, but the rainy spring made it almost impossible to schedule anything outdoors!  Last minute, we decided to try a studio session, and then grabbed a few quick outdoor shots out back when the rain let up for a spell!

I’ve been meaning to get around to posting some photos of the new studio space for awhile now.   The images have been sitting on my memory card for several weeks now and I just came across them!  Soon I’ll be posting photos that I took out back in the garden area, which has been working out really nicely..  I love being able to have so many great photo ops just outside the door!

If you aren’t following me on facebook or you haven’t been to see me in a few months, you might not be aware that I have recently moved into a studio space!

I can’t tell you how excited I am about it;  Shooting out of my house was fine;  I mean, it worked great for years…but it is no fair comparison to this place!

It’s in a lovely building in Burnsville called the River Ridge Arts Building.  It’s a family friendly building, and among it’s tenants are painters, dancers, musicians, counselors, and therapists, to name a few.  The building itself has great amenities:  adequate parking, a comfortable foyer/lounge area, and beautiful garden features with a pretty fence and a pond out back; However, the main selling point for me was the crazy natural light in the room I’m working out of.  It faces directly north, and one whole wall is comprised of windows/skylights.  The room has harnessed perfect diffused light from dawn till dusk!   I absolutely love everything about it, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

(I would encourage everyone to book early for photo shoots from now on…It’s that time of year and I’m already booking into June!

This past weekend was my first time shooting there;  and my sister Nicci was happy to bring Sophie in to be my guinea pig!  Nicci actually designed this dress all by herself (inspired by Matilda Jane!)  and the headband is by Miss Ruby Sue on Etsy.  (Also pictured is the great new sofa that was recently added to my prop collection!)

I kicked off the weekend with these lovely ladies, who were here for their 9 month session.   Twins seem to always feed off of each others’ emotions…When one is happy the other one seems to think, “Hmmm;  She looks like she’s having fun…Maybe this is kinda great!”  But when one starts crying;  the other one usually tends to follow suit!

These two are laid back; and when they did get upset it was easy to turn them around!  (I did have to corral them in this galvanized bin to get good shots of them together, since they are crawling a LOT.)

By the way; I think that’s Jenna in the pink and Amelia in the purple;  they are fraternal twins…but they look identical to me!!

They’re easy to entertain, have GREAT facial expressions, and they’re too young to be all that aware of the camera.  Sometimes, they’re not even able to move off the backdrop before I can sneak in a couple of shots!

Last weekend, all of my photo sessions involved babies in that age bracket.  Their parents knew exactly how to dress them for a photo session, to boot!  Lucky me!

(Her friends call her Charlie…)  This little six month old is pretty close to sitting up on her own;  but she can already stand pretty well with the aid of a chair!   She was very easy to please; Her parents taught me that all I needed to do to make her smile was pucker up and make a kissing noise–and it worked every time!  ( Although I’m curious to know if she decided that wasn’t so completely novel anymore after her session here!)

I get to see Becker and his sister quite often during the winter months;  Once for holiday cards, and once for each of their birthdays!

It’s hard for me to believe Becker is four already– His was my very first newborn shoot when I decided to quit my day job and pursue photography as a full time gig.  Gosh!  How time flies…

Mini Sessions:  March 6th

Since my calendar is already starting to fill up for spring, I decided to schedule my next mini sessions in the beginning of March.  I know that if I don’t get something on the calendar early, March will turn to April, and once April hits, summer seems to be right around the corner!    I will keep you posted on further updates, but for now what I know for sure is that I’ll be using a white backdrop, and we’ll be welcoming in spring!  (a little early for MN, but we’re all pretty eager for it by that time of year!)

The important thing for now is that, with the session, you get 15 edited digital images on disk (with a signed release) along with prints of each one for $200.  This is an offer that would normally be valued at $350, so it goes without saying that this is a killer deal!    I plan to start at 10:00AM, so if you are interested, contact me right away. I have already booked two slots with a third pending through my facebook page, so the sooner the better!

Here’s a handful of images from my newborn session on Thursday night…. Sweet boy!  (By the way; I’m playing around with some new effects on these…  I’m like a kid in a candy shop!)
