Engaged!

It’s the season for engagement photographs, and I’ve had a lot of fun getting to know each of these couples I’ll be working with on their wedding day..

Kayla + Ryan – Burnsville/studio

We intended to do Kayla and Ryan’s session in Northfield as well, but the rainy spring made it almost impossible to schedule anything outdoors!  Last minute, we decided to try a studio session, and then grabbed a few quick outdoor shots out back when the rain let up for a spell!

Heidi and Brian

I’m really excited to photograph Heidi and Brian’s wedding in July.  Not only are they an uber attractive couple, but they’re naturals in front of a camera!  (Both of which make my job one heck of a lot easier!!)  Heidi gave me a peek at her wedding dress, too.  It is STUNNING and dramatic, and she will look beautiful.

I met them at the Walker, which is not far from Heidi’s house;  She just wanted a shot in front of the Spoon Bridge.  We just barely missed the rain that night;  I couldn’t believe our luck as I was driving home in the downpour…

Romance on the Icy Tundra…

If it seems like I’ve been on hiatus, I haven’t. I’ve just been really, really bad at blogging!  I was really in a groove there for awhile, but now I’m shifting my focus to the business end of things.  (i.e., updating my brochures/pricing, and my horribly out dated website!)  I’ve already completed my price list, so now comes the creative part — my site!   It’s always really difficult for me to choose what images will end up there.  Of course I have my favorites;  the challenge lies in making sure that I’m showing the diversity in my work, and picking the images accordingly.   Anyway, I’m sure it will take longer than I expect.  It always does.

For now here are some photographs from the world’s fastest outdoor engagement shoot.  It was FREEZING cold this day…record breaking temps.  I was just really bent on doing it outdoors since studio engagement portraits can be somewhat tricky and awkward.  Jaime and Josh were here from South Dakota, so it’s not like it would have been easy for them to reschedule on a warmer day.  By the time we got back inside, my fingers were numb, and I was having a hard time talking.  I don’t even think we could have been outside for more than 20 minutes!  I might have liked a little more time, but afterward we went inside and took a few studio shots, anyway!

(Have I mentioned at all that I would really love a warm weather destination vacation anytime now?)

As long as I’m on the subject of engagements, I might as well mention that I am going to be very busy with weddings this summer.  I’m doing some freelance work for a couple other companies this year, and they will book me when they can unless I’ve given them close out dates.  My point is, if you are seriously considering booking me for your wedding, you should let me know ASAP so we can get a contract signed and your date on my calendar!

Bryan and Jessica

Bryan secretly called me prior to Jessica’s family session to see if I would be available afterward to capture his surprise proposal to her.  I can’t imagine what must have been going through Bryan’s head those few hours prior as I was gallivanting around town with his “intended” and her family–but if he was nervous, he didn’t show it!  He just tagged along, calm and cool as a cucumber the whole time!

I, for one, was giddy as a schoolgirl when I knew the family session was drawing to a close.   I was the only one who knew what was about to happen;  and the plan was this:  once we were all wrapped up with the family photos, I was supposed to ask Bryan and Jessica if they would like a couple of shots of just the two of them, “as long as he was there…”

One couldn’t help but get wrapped up in this personal and beautiful moment–I’m a little amazed that these photos weren’t  blurry.   I was shaking like a leaf once I took the first shot; and it just got worse once he got down on one knee!

I just love surprises!!
